Spring is Coming - I Promise!

It sure is cold right now in the Chippewa Valley isn't it? I mean - it rained sleet last night all over my Expedition! I'm not a tall guy and getting all of the ice off the windshield was quite a chore to undertake before I could head home after a long day working on websites.

Winter is almost over...

This past fall semester has been pretty good for the Information Technology Club. Instructor Jon Cooley maintained his status of IT Club Frisbee Golf Champion in 2008. The Information Technology Club held many great IT Club Meetings throughout the semester, including one where I was able to speak about Search Engine Optimization, or SEO as we in the bizniz like to call it. And a number of graduating students with computer programming degrees were able to start out 2009 with new jobs in their industry. Spectacular! Right?!

So what's next for the Information Technology Club? Well that's actually an easy one - just like the Earth likes to spin around the sun and give us some radically different seasons - we like to do our own spin from Fall Semester into the Spring Semester. It might be hard to believe, but classes start up again next Monday. Did you hear that? Yes. Next Monday it's time again for students to head downstairs to the bookstore and buy some textbooks for Spring Semester at CVTC.

IT Club Bonuses

Insert very subtle hint and insanely cool cheat codes for IT Club members here ->

  • » Step 1: Week 1 find out which books your Instructors are requiring you to use for your classes. Then buy those books from the bookstore if you absolutely have to use them the first week of classes.
  • » Step 2: Order those same books online from Amazon for some premium discounted prices.
  • » Step 3: Return your expensive books to the bookstore once your discounted books arrive!
  • » Step 4: If you happen to be INSANELY lucky and your books are going to be used next year for the same classes then: sell back your discounted Amazon-bought books to the bookstore if they're interested in buying them and if your books are in good enough shape! (This last step is optional and very dependent on whether or not your textbook makes it into next year's curriculum).

There you go, cool cheat codes and money-saving tips from the Information Technology Club. Who says you can't learn anything by joining the IT Club?

Internship Opportunities

The fall semester had also introduced a new Local Internship Opportunity with Eau Claire's first Internet Marketing and Search Engine Optimization Company.

Students seeking an Eau Claire Computer Programming Degree at the Chippewa Valley Technical College are now required to have completed either the Information Technology Capstone class or a Programmer/Analyst Internship where they might perform any of the following job duties: programming business applications, web page design and programming, spreadsheet applications, and database applications. Last semester two students worked directly with Capable Media to build database-driven websites for clients.

If you are in the IT Programmer/Analyst program to pursue your computer programming degree and are interested in a local internship that meets the requirements of your degree program then take a moment or two to read up on this new Eau Claire Internship Opportunity.
